James Devenport Drove His Honda-Powered Norma to a Championship in Super Unlimited

In Super Unlimited, Team Davidson Racing had the car and the driver to beat. Driver Brian Frisselle had been putting up the fastest lap times of the weekend, but the car blew its engine in qualifying, which resulted in a DNF. The team had another engine, and a long night of wrenching put the car back on track and Frisselle last on grid. By the entrance to the Esses on lap one, Frisselle was in fourth. Jimmy Casey wasn’t wasting any time, and used the clear track ahead to put a gap on the field. However, the collision in Turn [...]

Jason Fraser Started from Pole and Held the Lead All Race Long to Take the Spec E46 Championship

Jason Fraser had never driven the Circuit of The Americas, but spent plenty of time on a simulator to prepare for the weekend. The homework paid off for Fraser, who started from pole and took home the National Championship in Spec E46. At the start, Aristotle Balogh came from third and challenged Fraser for the inside of Turn 1, but Fraser carried more speed and came out with the lead. Everything was textbook — until it wasn’t. By the time the field arrived back at Turn 1, Mark Drennan had advanced 11 positions to take third. That’s when Charles Hurley [...]

Kwitowski Lead from Start to Finish in ST4

Setting the fastest lap time in Friday qualifying got Andy Kwitowski a good spot on the grid for the qualifying race, and he took the win in the qualifying race to snare pole for Sunday’s Championship race, too. Kwitowski got the best of the field into Turn 1 and led them into the Esses and all the way to Start/Finish on lap one. In fact, he led the field for the entirety of the race, which was shortened by a red-flag crash about 30 minutes into the 45-minute race. He never put a wheel wrong. Shaun Webster had to battle [...]

Michael Lapaglia Took Advantage of Cars Battling Ahead of Him and Took the American Iron Championship

When the American Iron field lined up for its standing start, Cody Powell had the prized pole position, followed by Corey Weber, Michael Patterson and Michael LaPaglia. When the green flag waved, Patterson got the holeshot of the century and was around Powell by the time he grabbed second gear. That was what Patterson needed to break away from the field. What he didn’t need was a Spec E46 collision one lap later, which disabled a car and produced a lot of debris and radiator fluid on the track — and a full-course caution. When the race resumed, Weber tried [...]

John Hyer Pulls off First in ST3

When the green flag waved on the 12-car Super Touring 3 field, it looked like everyone in the front of the pack was attempting to win the race in Turn 1. Cars were getting pinched into the pit wall and pushed into the entry lane. Justin Bordonaro locked up momentarily and crop-dusted the field. Dave Schotz just missed his bumper and Scott Smith came in so hot he had to run inside Turn 1 to keep from hitting the “turtle.” Smith ran wide at the exit and Schotz and Bordonaro came out even. Bordonaro had the lead going into the [...]

Mcaleenan Takes First in GTS4

The fastest of the German Touring Series classes had five cars in the field. Five BMWs and one Porsche. Michael McAleenan had pole, followed by John Allen in the Porsche, Ralf Lindackers in his M3, Vytis Aranauskas in his E92 M3 and Ron Ballard in an E46. At the green flag, McAleenan use pole position to his advantage and led the field into Turn 1 followed by Lindackers and Allen side by side with Aranauskas trailing. When he exited Turn 1, McAleenan hit the afterburner and shot out to a big lead. Five laps into the race, McAleenan had put [...]

Kevin Jander Came Away with the Win Collecting the CMC Championship

Kevin Jander was a man on fire in Camaro-Mustang Challenge at the NASA Championships. After scoring the fastest time in Friday’s first qualifying session and winning Saturday’s qualifying race to nab pole position, Jander still had to prove himself through 45 minutes of hard racing. That’s what the Championships are about, the challenges that come as races develop. In the CMC race, Jander had to cool his jets a bit while crews cleaned up a Spec E46 crash in Turn 1 at the beginning of lap two. When the race resumed, the classes were fully mingled, so awareness became paramount. [...]

Roberto Crescencio Takes Home the 2018 Championship in GTS3

Roberto Crescencio had been driving like a champion all weekend. He scored the fastest time in qualifying and took the win in a crash-shortened qualifying race on Saturday. For Sunday’s race, Crescencio had a little something up his sleeve, but he wouldn’t say what it was. At the green flag, Crescencio got to Turn 1 first, but he didn’t appear to have any huge advantages. However, 15 minutes into the race, Crescencio had established a 10-second gap between himself and Jeff McGuiness. Crescencio had kept the setup on the car, but decided to swap his front windshield for a Lexan [...]

Chad Gilsinger Came out on Top in Super Touring 2

In classical terms, the Super Touring 2 field was about as unlucky as you could get on the start of the race. An ST1 car had spun in the middle of Turn 1 just after the start, collecting one ST1 car and an ST2 car, and essentially blocking a good portion of the field from a section of the turn they were going to use. In terms of Chad Gilsinger’s perspective, it couldn’t have worked out better. Gilsinger started from third on grid in his second-generation Acura NSX and got enough of a jump on the field that he was [...]

2019 NASA Championships Set For Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Continuing the trend of moving its National Championships to a new track each year, the National Auto Sport Association is excited to announce that the 2019 NASA Championships Presented by Toyo Tires will continue as a singular event set to take place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Just two short weeks ago, NASA hosted its largest Championship event in the company’s 28-year history with nearly 500 competitors taking part in the historic event at Circuit of The Americas. The 14th annual NASA Championships will take place at the track where it all began, where NASA held [...]
